Episode 128: The New Stage of Struggle Against Trumpism (Discussion of MHI Editorial)

Co-hosts Andrew Kliman and Gabriel Donnelly discuss Marxist-Humanist Initiative’s upcoming editorial “The New Stage of Struggle Against Trumpism.” The co-hosts, and the editorial, consider the situation we all face after Trump’s second election. In particular, they discuss the current lack of a concerted resistance, the elected Democrats who are toying with collaboration, and what makes 2024 different from 2016. Additionally, they consider the fragile state of the global situation and of American democracy.

An important aspect of their discussion is the need for a theoretical framework for understanding Trumpism to be part of any resistance. They discuss how the rise of the split-ballot voters shows the need for a serious conception of Trumpism to undergird any serious mass resistance.

Plus current-events segment: the fall of Assad and the bombshell events in Syria. Almost everyone was taken aback by these developments, the co-hosts included, and they consider how this situation is still in flux.
