Episode 121: The US Labor Movement: Reflections of Aaron Williams, Veteran Union Staffer and Marxist-Humanist

Aaron Williams served for decades as a union staff member. He talks with Gabriel and Andrew about his experiences, including his work dealing with Taylorism, and how and why the union leadership often becomes “auxiliary management.” Aaron stresses that the job of a staffer is “not emancipatory,” because a union is a “service organization” that “doesn’t lead to the self-development of the workers [or …] beyond the capitalist system.” He and the co-hosts also talk about how the labor movement and the challenges it faces have changed over the years, including some positive developments.

Plus current-events segment: The struggle over “judicial reform” in Mexico.
