Episode 122: New English Translation of Capital, volume 1 (interview with Paul Reitter and Paul North)

Gabriel and Andrew interview Paul Reitter and Paul North, co-editors of the new English edition of volume 1 of Marx’s Capital, which Reitter also translated. Much of the discussion explores the several ways in which the new translation differs from previous English ones (including a noteworthy difference pertaining to the working class’s expropriation of the expropriators). The co-hosts and co-editors also discuss why Reitter decided to produce a new translation; the collaborative process that he and North engaged in; the “reading” of Capital they chose; the theme of “Marx’s anger,” with which North’s introduction begins; and the co-editors’ plans for translation of other volumes of Capital.

Plus current-events segment: Donald Trump and JD Vance’s incitement of violence against Haitian immigrants—especially after Kamala Harris thrashed Trump in their September 10 debate—by perpetrating the racist lie that the Haitians are eating people’s pets.
