Episode 160: Marx and the Circuit of Capital (Interview with Alan Freeman and Guido De Marco)

Co-hosts Andrew Kliman and Gabriel Donnelly welcome Alan Freeman and Guido De Marco. They co-edited the new release Money, Value and Marx’s Circuit of Capital, the 41st edition of the Research in Political Economy series. The conversation opens with the authors discussing the centrality of the circuit of capital to Marx’s view of capitalist reproduction as a temporally open and historically evolving process. This view of reproduction stands in marked contrast to Marxian economists’ models of reproduction as a self-reproducing equilibrium structure.

The authors and co-hosts also discuss other ways in which Volume II of Capital has been misunderstood and misrepresented by scholars since Marx’s death. These misunderstandings have impeded our overall understanding of the circuit of capital.

Plus current-events segment: the co-hosts discuss destabilizing effect of the Trumpist war on Iran on the whole world in the aftermath of Trump’s surrender.
