Marxist-Humanist Initiative held a public Zoom meeting—“The Economics of the Lower Phase of Communism: Ante Andabak and Andrew Kliman in Conversation”—on June 14. You can watch the video of the two-hour meeting below.
In the first hour, Ante Andabak, a PhD student in Zagreb, interviews Andrew Kliman, a Marxist-Humanist theorist who is writing a book on Marx as a theorist of post-capitalist society. The second hour features comments and questions from other participants in the meeting, and responses from Andabak and Kliman.
The main questions addressed in the meeting were: What would the economic basis of the lower phase of communism have to be to merit that name? What would it take to have an economy that is under the control of freely associated producers, instead of one in which economic forces control people, with or without a despotic, state-instituted plan? The conversation explored the building blocks that such a post-capitalist mode of production will require, and whether it can be a viable and robust alternative to the present economic order.
